The Pretrial Services Agency for the District of Columbia (PSA) is a Federal independent entity within the Court Services and Offender Supervision Agency (CSOSA). CSOSA was established by the National Capital Revitalization and Self-Government Improvement Act of 1997 and was certified as a federal agency under the Executive Branch in August 2000. PSA has served the Nation's Capital for more than 40 years. The Agency assists judicial officers in both the Superior Court for the District of Columbia and the United States District Court for the District of Columbia in formulating release recommendations and providing supervision and services to defendants awaiting trial that reasonably assure that those on conditional release return to court and do not engage in criminal activity. PSA has long been a leader in the D.C. criminal justice system and has been nationally recognized for its pretrial drug testing and innovative supervision and treatment programs.
